Oh What a Feeling....

Okay so it's been about a month since I've written but that basically because not too much has changed since then. Here is a picture of a newer piece I've made and am currently selling on my website... I've been selling a few pieces and I've since signed up for 2 shows in the month of May so hopefully I will sell lots of stuff at those shows. I also was able to get some of my jewelry in the big Shecky's Night Out show in DC that has been sold out for a while. A new friend who owns this wonderful boutique on U Street in DC (Caramel Boutique)has allowed me to come and help her out with her booth at the show and in return will sell some of my pieces! So this gives me the opportunity to actually see what the show is like before spending $700 to do the next show....God is good is all I can say.... I'm also hoping to do a couple of big wine festivals this summer because those have a huge following and what's better than shopping and drinking wine. I also may have the chance to have some of my pieces on consignment at Sarah's shop on U Street, she is just wonderful and has such great stuff in her shop so if you are in the DC area and reading this please check her out! Next thing up for me also is I finally get a honeymoon! My husband and I got married last August and never took a honeymoon because money was just so tight then. So come July we will be spending a week at a fabulous spa/resort in Cancun Mexico and I'll maybe even get some cool gemstone beads out of the trip. I'm currently waiting to hear if I was accepted into a juried art show that is a monthly event in the Ballston area of Arlington VA so cross your fingers for me if anyone is out there! Well that's all for now! I'll write again sooner next time I promise...

On a Roll.....

Okay so this is only my second post and I'm pretty sure not too many people are reading but it's a great release for all of the stuff going on in my world right now.... So this past week has been pretty busy and wonderful, I did a networking event at Eciti in Tysons Corner VA that the promotional company I've been working with put on. I gotta shout them out because they've been awesome to me! Yay VIP Exclusive. So any who I was allowed to set up a table there and sell but I wasn't expecting to really get any sales because it was more of a networking model type event. The funny thing is one of the models actually bought a piece of jewelry which was great so the night wasn't for nothing! plus I handed out a bunch of postcards and business cards and a lot of the girls said they'd check out my site. So I've been getting a lot of hits on my site but not many purchases so I've been working with my shoe designer friend LeFawn on concepts for what i really want it to look like and we are going to go for a really fun vibe featuring models looking like they are in a southern setting relaxing sipping on some iced tea wearing summery dresses. Then they get into a cab and Wa La! they are in an urban setting wearing my jewelry shopping around town... I really like this intro idea because it relates to my business name which is pretty catchy and a lot of people seem to like it. Oh and I just got my logo done by this amazing artist that does lots of Gothic and whimsical type of art. I'll post a picture of it for ya... Anyway this week I'm working on a show I'm doing on Friday at Caramel Boutique in DC and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm also in talks with doing Shecky's Night Out which is this huge shopping spree event coming to DC in May, so hopefully I will be able to be a vendor at that as well. Well until next time, I'm going outside to enjoy this 80 degree weather!

Urban Magnolia's First Post!

So I said I'd never do it but now I have....create a blog that is, lately while trying to get my jewelry design business to actually turn a profit I've had so many thoughts in my head and I need somewhere to write it all down and what better way to capture it I guess than a blog. I read other people blogs all the time but never thought of creating my own since I didn't exactly get the writing gene in my family but I totally got the creative one! woo hoo! My sister April is an amazing writer, she writes it all, poetry, short stories and even childrens books... my mom is pretty amazing at everything, she was a professional writer for over 30 years until retirement and she is also an artist so I have her to thank for the creative gene.

Okay so about my business, I'm starting to get a little exposure and about to sign up to do a bunch of arts and crafts type festivals but what I really want is to be seen in boutiques. The problem is that I have a huge rejection fear so I haven't actually approached any although I did finally get my website up and running which is a huge step for me! I also recently had my jewelry featured in a local fashion show and that was pretty amazing because I have the pictures to prove it! Anyhow I'll write again but for now I have work to do...that sounds sooo professional... I love it. Later for now.
